National working group UN convention hbo/wo

“Working together on inclsive education in college/university.”

Colleges and universities that have signed the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Declaration of Intent are working together in the National Working Group on the UN Convention hbo/wo. The purpose of the working group is to further shape the implementation of inclusive education. Students by experience are also involved. In 2017, the first step for this was taken in hbo/wo.

Why participate?

As a participant, you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues from other institutions to achieve more accessible educational offerings for all students. This is done by:

  • collaborative learning and strengthening of inclusive approaches.
  • sharing knowledge and good examples.
  • developing and implementing inclusive initiatives within its own institutions.

What are the goals of the working group?

The working group UN Convention hbo/wo is committed to education in which every student can participate fully. The working group strives for inclusiveness in hbo/wo, translating the UN Convention on Disability into educational practice. The focus is on the following key pillars:

  • Flexibility in curriculum: attention to different learning styles and needs of students.
  • Information literacy: making information accessible to all students.
  • Internationalization: ensuring inclusion in international programs and exchanges.
  • Transition to employment: supporting students with support needs in their career development.
  • Expertise promotion of staff: focus on didactics and inclusive attitudes.

The focus is on the inclusion themes:

  • digital and physical accessibility
  • student participation
  • accessible testing and examination
  • policy development and ownership.

Who is the working group for?

The national working group UN convention hbo/wo is intended for everyone involved in improving accessible education and implementing the UN convention within hbo and wo and who have signed the declaration of intent for the UN convention Disability or intend to do so in the near future. The working group members can also exchange experiences with each other in an accessible way via the online community for the mbo/hbo and wo.

Also join the national working group!

The network meets physically/online three times a year to share knowledge, celebrate successes and address bottlenecks together. The meetings are financially enabled by the Ministry of OCW, so there is no cost to participate.
