HANdreiking | Digital Accessibility
“Digital accessibility is not a technical addition, but a prerequisite for equal opportunities in learning and working.“

Digital accessibility is not a bonus, but a basic requirement for good education. It is about equal opportunities, ease of use and inclusion in the daily practice of education and work. The University of Arnhem and Nijmegen (HAN) developed the HANdreiking Digital Accessibility. This guide helps staff and lecturers to apply digital accessibility concretely in their own work.
What does the flyer offer?
The goal of the HANdreiking is clear: to ensure that digital information and systems are usable and understandable for everyone. That means:
- clear and readable content
- accessible websites, apps and documents
- consistent and user-friendly digital environments
- Awareness of everyone’s role in digital inclusion.
In doing so, the handbook contributes to accessible education with fewer barriers and more independence for students and staff.
Who is the handbook for?
The HANdreiking is intended for anyone working with digital resources within the educational institution. Think about:
- teachers developing teaching materials or providing blended education
- Employees who create emails, documents or web pages
- managers who manage policy and culture
- buyers selecting digital products.
Whether you are creating a presentation, administering a test or managing a website, digital accessibility touches everyone’s role. Therefore, the handbook matches different roles and responsibilities.
