“Insights & practical examples.”

Insights from the Stijn webinar

On May 8, 2025, the “Integral Working on Student wellbeing” webinar took place, focusing on the integrated approach to student wellbeing. As Jolien Dopmeijer, Stijn program coordinator, emphasized during the webinar, “Integral working on student welfare is together. Activities related to student wellbeing are carried out in conjunction. AND different internal and external stakeholders work together on these activities.” Coherent activities are more effective than separate, temporary fragmented approaches. Therefore, it is most effective to work integrally on student wellbeing.

“If you organize good education from a certain vision, well-being is part of it.”
– Johannes Ziskoven, University of Applied Sciences Utrecht –

To support this process, Stijn developed the Student Wellness Framework, which provides structure for embedding student wellness within the educational institution.

During the webinar, participants were taken through the application of this framework. Serge Feldmann, senior policy advisor at the Hogeschool Rotterdam, led the conversation in a dynamic way, with light-heartedness and humor. Jolien Dopmeijer, Stijn program coordinator, explained the framework and how it can contribute to a sustainable and structural approach to student welfare within MBO, HBO and WO institutions.

“The framework is guiding, but the coloring given to it is up to the educational institution itself.”
– Jolien Dopmeijer –

Practical real-world examples

There was a lot of focus on the practical application of the framework, with contributions from experts Johannes Ziskoven, Student Success advisor and lecturer/researcher at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, and Jelmer Muis, Student Wellbeing project manager at Erasmus University Rotterdam. They shared how their educational institutions work integrally on student wellbeing and what steps are needed to do so.
