Model agreement for student carers

The Model Agreement helps you to discuss informal care responsibilities and their impact on studies with students, with clear agreements on appropriate support.

What does the agreement offer?

A format that enables schools to recognise the informal care situation of students and determine what adjustments or assistance are possible: flexible education, financial arrangements, and guidance.

Who is it intended for?

For student carers in secondary vocational education, higher professional education and university education, and education professionals who wish to support them, such as counsellors, student advisors and teachers.

More about the Model Agreement

The Model Agreement is a tool for students and schools to discuss informal care responsibilities and the effect this has on school. With the Model Agreement, the educational institution recognises the status of the student as an informal carer and indicates what support the student can call upon. This could include:

  • flexible education: adjustments to the curriculum, attendance requirements, assignments, internships, assessment and examinations
  • financial support: the Student Support Fund – StOF (higher education) and Student Fund (vocational education).
  • Internal and external support: student coach, student counsellor, social worker, psychologist..
