She is someone who is very self-aware and thoughtful, and who experiences new environments, travel and daily routines quite intensely. Busy or unfamiliar situations can feel overwhelming at times, especially when combined with her health conditions and food allergies.<br>Still, she decided to take the step and joined an Erasmus mobility in Greece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019ve worked a lot on myself,\u201d Maria explains. \u201cSo that fear doesn\u2019t control my decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Taking that first step<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To prepare, Maria approached the trip in her own way. She carefully planned everything and even visited the airport a week in advance with her husband, just to get familiar with the environment. \u201cKnowing where to go and what to expect makes a huge difference,\u201d she says. Despite that preparation, she still had doubts. \u201cAirports are very stressful for me. The noise, the unpredictability\u2026 it\u2019s a lot.\u201d She also worried about food allergies, getting lost, or missing a flight. But she chose to go anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A warm welcome<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once in Greece, those worries slowly faded. What stood out most to her was the warmth of the people. \u201cSeeing how excited the Greek hosts were to have us there\u2026 it made everything worth it.\u201d She enjoyed discovering the culture, the food, and the small details of daily life. \u201cI love seeing the differences, but also realizing how similar Mediterranean countries are.\u201d At the same time, the experience brought meaningful moments. During workshops about inclusion, Maria felt she was contributing to something bigger. \u201cWe were really working on making Erasmus more accessible. That felt meaningful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What made the difference<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Maria, feeling supported was essential. Having trusted teachers nearby gave her a sense of safety. \u201cKnowing I wasn\u2019t alone made everything easier.\u201d Small adjustments also had a big impact. Her food allergies were taken seriously, which reduced a lot of stress. \u201cNot having to constantly worry about food gave me so much peace.\u201d She also learned practical strategies that helped her cope, like making detailed lists or bringing items that make her feel comfortable in unfamiliar places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Growing in confidence<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The experience changed how Maria sees herself. \u201cI realized: I can do this too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the first time she traveled without her usual support system. That made it challenging, but also empowering. \u201cIf something goes wrong, it\u2019s part of the experience.
