Game | Go!ForAll

Why this game?

Go!ForAll is an interactive game you play with colleagues to increase awareness and inclusion within internationalization.

What does the game offer?

You’ll experience the barriers students may face in a study abroad experience and gain insight into how to devise inclusive solutions.

Who is the game for?

Go!ForAll is intended for professionals working in secondary and higher education. Especially employees who deal with students who go abroad for their study or internship. These may be supervisors and teachers, but also employees from other job groups, such as policy officers and administrative staff.

How does the game work?

The game is prepared and supervised by a game leader. The players are divided into teams. Each team immerses itself in a fictional student with its own background and personality. During the game, the game leader presents situations that students may experience before, during and after an experience abroad. In the process, it becomes increasingly clear how the accessibility of an international experience can differ for students. Solutions and tips for inclusive internationalization are also shared during the game.

Practical information

  • Playtime: 90 minutes.
  • Number of players: 10-20.
  • Type of game: physical group game.

Step into the student’s shoes for a moment

Play the game that literally puts you in the student’s shoes. The game illustrates the obstacles and hurdles students experience before, during and after their study or internship abroad.

Experience to do things differently

Awareness of the challenges faced by students with support needs is the goal of the internationalization game. When you better understand which groups of students are less likely to go abroad and why, you can take this into account. As a participant, the game encourages you to engage in a dialogue about inclusive internationalization. It gives you inspiration for an inclusive approach.

What do you need for the game?

You can play the game yourself with your colleagues using the downloads on this page. Furthermore, you need a large room, such as a classroom, to play the game in.

At the bottom of this page you can download all the game materials. Note: There are two versions of the game available. One version for mbo (recognizable by the green color) and one version for hbo/wo (recognizable by the orange color). The presentation slides and persona cards are different in the different versions. We recommend that you read the manual carefully first so that you know how best to use the game materials. You can print out the materials, but they can also be read digitally. Do you prefer to play the game in English? On this page you can find the game materials in English.

Inception of the game

Students can gain international competencies in order to develop personally and thus increase their chances in the labor market. One of the ways they can do this is by doing (part of) their studies, an internship or a study trip abroad. However, traveling for study, internship or a study trip abroad is not yet accessible to every student. Every student should have the opportunity to develop international competencies.

This game was created from an initiative of the National Working Group on Inclusive Internationalization. It was developed in collaboration with Nuffic. The characters and situations in the game are based on Nuffic’s research on inclusive internationalization and interviews with students and professionals from secondary and higher education. The format of the game is based by the UDL game previously released by ECIO.
